Ullapool sportives
Hi there, just a quick mail to ask the people who are in the know in the area.

I’m considering signing up for the Ullapool sportive in September but wanted ask your opinion on a couple of things. First off, I’m no great cyclist, bit overweight (delete the "bit" in fact) and mainly commute to work plus longer rides at the weekend and would definitely be termed “weekend warrior” by proper cyclists. I just fancy the Ullapool sportive as it’s a good thing to aim for with still some time to train properly and also wanted to do a sportive somewhere with beautiful scenery and worth travelling to. Am not completely naïve to the fact that “beautiful scenery” probably translates in reality to a very hilly and tough course and whilst I’d like to try the full Ullapool Mor, the Beag might be more realistic. So far only 160 have registered to take part, from your experience does that suggest that they are all at the very least good club riders or do you get your average Joe within that number?

I’d be travelling up from London, (yep, soft southerner but from Dartmoor really not the smoke itself) probably on the sleeper to Inverness with my wife and daughter (maybe just me) and any suggestions on a good B & B or hotel would be appreciated. Would you suggest staying in Inverness the night before or Ullapool itself if possible as I guess it is at least a couple hours or so drive from Inverness and I wouldn’t want to do that on the morning of the ride.

It would be great to hear back from you.

Cheers

Hi Calvin
A couple of our boys did the beag event last year said it was great event but wet and windy .Staying in Ullapool would be the best option to save driving in the morning. The longer event could be very hard depending on the weather.

Well done on the Cfcc site it looks like it is coming along nicely but can you take off your caps lock, it makes the reports awfully hard on the eye.
